Field activities have begun at the Water–Food Nexus DeepDemo site in Püspökszilágy (Hungary). The work is being carried out by partners from the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), marking an important step in the practical implementation of the project.

Located near Budapest, the demonstration site focuses on applying nature-based solutions for water retention in hilly landscapes. As part of the project’s activities, the team is testing the effectiveness of log dams designed to retain water after heavy rainfall and to assess their impact on soil moisture and surrounding crops.

Field measurements are currently underway, with researchers installing probes and data loggers to collect valuable environmental data. The initial observations are encouraging and will contribute to a better understanding of how such approaches can support climate adaptation and water management in agricultural systems.

The activities are carried out with the support of Gabor Halupka and his colleagues and students, whose work at this DeepDemo represents an important contribution to the project’s research and demonstration efforts.
